More good work from Sarah...

‎600 GBP has just been sent thanks to all my friends and colleagues who came, ate, bought, contributed and supported Adam's Bring and Buy Breakfast last weekend in Dubai. Thank you!

Good news at last...

At last some good news. The occupational therapists have completed the smart testing process (many many thanks to Kerry) and has proposed that Adam is transferred for rehab to the Royal Hospital for Neuro Disability in Putney, South London. (www.rhn.org.uk) . The consultants reports and registrar’s reports have been compiled and sent off. The RHN have assessed all of this and have agreed to accept Adam as a patient.
The RHN is outside the Leeds General Infirmary area and is an independent hospital. They are writing to Leeds saying they will accept Adam (in fact this may well have already taken place). The next step is for the Leeds trust to agree to the funding, and we are awaiting information regarding the Board’s next meeting, and hope that this will be before the end of the year.
Time scales are not known yet, but we hope that this can take place quickly. LGI is unable to provide the specialist level of care needed and for Adam’s sake we c
annot afford to wait any longer. We will keep the pressure on to ensure that the treatment he does receive is at least adequate for his condition.
Adele and I are obviously sad that he will be so far away, but we believe, and so do the occupational therapists, that this gives Adam the best chance of recovery and regaining quality of life. We will make it work knowing that it is for the best, secure in the knowledge that his needs and recovery will be properly taken care of at a specialist centre. We will still visit regularly, but will not be able to spend as much time with him as we are doing at present,
If you want to know more about RHN check out the web site and the recent Panorama programme.
Thanks to all for the messages of support and offers of help. For now we are monitoring the situation closely. If there are any delays, or if for some reason the funding is turned down we will let you all know immediately so that we can take action. Hopefully, this will not be necessary.

Andrew, Adam will be a bit far from you, but there are so many people down here in the south who will be more than happy to make up for their absence thus far and visit often now he is nearer to us... He will never be alone! Keep us posted as ever x x

  • Matthew Cullen Andrew and Adele I am absolutely over the moon. That is the first hurdle, we just need the funding to follow now. When I was down the hospital the other night with George it is the best I have ever seen Adam. He gave us a big smile once we started talking to Adam. Positive steps all the way. Big love to you both and as always call me if you need anything x x x
  • Cafrin Hart Le This is great news it really is. And as Pete said we will of course make sure Adam is not short of company. Great news indeed, keep us posted and let us know if we can do anything. Much love xxx
  • Sarah Norwell Amazing news! As Gudonis said, he will never be alone. The main thing is that this is best for him. Lots of love xxx

  • Danielle Nicholls Thank you for taking the time to update us. This will be brilliant for Adam, sad and difficult for you & Adele, as you're used to seeing him so regularly, but hopefully a big step in bringing Adam's recovery forward. Love to you all as always. Please know many of Adam's other former Cathedral colleagues ask how he is getting on and hold you all in their thoughts too xx

  • Joanna Donegan That's superb news and even though a little selfish I am looking forward to being able to visit when he comes down south! Xx
  • Shirley Kearns Fantastic news Andrew. Fingers crossed that the funding is approved quickly. I am sure the RHN is an excellent placement for Adam and that everyone will help you and Adele to be with him as much as possible. Love S x x x
  • June Wheatley Great news although Im sure it will be hard on you both - he will get the best possible help. Remember we're all here to help. Just say the word. And I'm sure there are lots of lovely people on here who live further south who can visit Adam if you're not able to. And who knows, maybe a few posh ones may offer you a bed for a night or too! Xx
  • Jan Ashton I really hope you get the funding sorted out - this place looks amazing. I like the quote from the relative that they don't treat you like a patient but like a person - Perfect x
  • Gina Thompson Great news Andrew, and thank you very much for keeping us all informed whan you have so much else to think about. As you can see from the above, being alone is not something Adam will suffer from in Putney!! Love to you all.xxx
  • Maria Leisha Looking forward to seeing him again.
  • Cafrin Hart Le I live in Tulse Hill (close to Brixton..South London!!! just to clarify for our friends in the North) I am more than happy for anyone to stay at mine if needed, tis only small I'm afraid but most accommodating!xx
  • Harriet Morgan Thompson This is great news. I have been following Adam's recovery from the start and can identify your frustrations with the LGI having been in there a year ago with 18 broken bones including my neck and much of my thoracic spine. The lack of continuity in care, inconsistency in staff coupled with bad handling of patients in the NHS still makes me angry and baffles me. I hope you find some peace now with getting the care he deserves whilst maintaining his dignity. It is a sheer marathon you are doing and you are doing it with such pride by providing a voice for Adam. I am fully recovered now and even though have been conscious this whole time can only really find my voice now to express how I feel about what you've been doing. Much love and support from afar. Hx

  • John Clappison This is really good news, let's hope it all goes through quickly and Adam is moved as soon as possible. As other people have also said, I live in London and am more than happy for anyone to stay at my place when they are visiting Adam, just let me (or Neil) know.
  • Nicola Tierney In visiting distance! Good news indeed
  • Phil Gott That's wonderful news.
